Citrine is another variety of quartz formed when amethyst is exposed to prolonged heating during formation. It varies in size from tiny beds of crystals (see left) to large individual points. The colour can vary from very dark brown or black (if exposed to x-rays and called morion) to bright honey yellow. Also see Ametrine.

Citrine never needs to be cleansed (but won't mind if you do!). Protects the energy system. Promotes awareness of the self/assertiveness (but not agression). Helps in securing ones needs on the physical plane - plenty rather than excess - and has therefore been associated with money. Can assist people suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder.
