A variety of chalcedony, agate usually forms in geodes and can be recognised by its patterns of concentric bands or stripes. It can be dyed in an enormous range of colours so look to see if the outside is the same colour as the inside. If so then the agate is dyed, but this doen't affect the energy of the stone. Sometimes contains quartz or amethyst in its centre.
